Christian Eriksen isn’t allowed to play in Serie A this season

Christian Eriksen cannot play for Inter Milan this season as ‘the current conditions of the player don’t meet the requirements’.

Eriksen, 29, suffered a cardiac arrest in a football match between Denmark and Finland at Euro 2020 on June 12.

The Danish midfielder required urgent medical assistance before being taken to hospital, where he was fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator).

Inter had said that Eriksen was in ‘excellent physical and mental shape‘ as he stepped up his recovery after surgery.

But it appears they have now changed their tune as he will not be allowed to play in Italy on medical grounds until further notice.

In a written statement, the club said: “With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen, it should be noted that following a serious injury which occurred during the European Championship in June 2021, the player has been temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sporting activity in the current season.”

Did Tottenham Hotspur sign Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day in 2016?

However, the added catch is that Eriksen could be allowed to play elsewhere, so in theory he could push for a move in January to continue his playing career.

Inter said: “Although the current conditions of the player don’t meet the requirements of achieving sporting fitness in Italy, the same could instead be achieved in other countries where the player could resume competitive activity.”

Having signed in 2013, Eriksen contributed 69 goals and 90 assists in over 300 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, before leaving for the Nerazzurri in early January last year.

Since then, he has scored eight goals and three assists in 60 games for the club, winning the Serie A with former manager Antonio Conte‘s side last season.
