Spurs look set to be beaten by AS Roma to the signing of Brazilian hot prospect Casemiro.

Harry Redknapp’s side are thought to have been chasing the Sao Paulo midfielder since last summer, but it appears as though The Giallorossi will win the race for his signature, reports Corriere dello Sport.

Tottenham Hotspur had thought they were getting closer to landing their man, but it seems the 19-year-old will not be heading to White Hart Lane, but the Stadio Olimpico instead.

The Italian press claim that negotiations are at an advanced stage, although Sao Paulo are yet to confirm any official deal.

However, it is thought the Brazil club are willing to let Casemiro leave if their £12million valuation is met for a player who captained Brazil’s Under-20s side to victory in the South American Youth Championship.

He also collected his first full cap for the senior Brazil side this year, and it is thought his battling style in the middle of the pitch would suit the Premier League.

Although it is thought Roma are close to his signature, sources in Brazil have apparently claimed there are host European clubs after his signature and there may still be a chance for a club to outbid Luis Enrique’s side.

Were Spurs successful in bringing the player to north London, Casemiro would join compatriot Sandro at the club.
