Tottenham transfer news: Rival fans 'were so angry' about £11m Daniel Levy deal

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in the stands

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has claimed that Swansea fans were left furious when Tottenham managed to sign Joe Rodon for just £11m last year.

Having come through the Welsh side's youth system, Rodon went on to make 54 appearances for the senior side before getting his Premier League move in 2020.

How has Rodon fared since joining Tottenham?

Swansea supporters clearly rated Rodon highly, but it appears that Spurs are not as convinced by him.

The 6 foot 4 international made just eight league starts in his maiden campaign in north London in 2020/21, as Jose Mourinho preferred the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez instead.

Rodon has found game time even harder to come by this season. With Cristian Romero being added to Tottenham's squad, the 24-year-old Welshman has not been named in the starting XI at all in the top-flight, and has featured just once in nine Premier League matches for Nuno Espirito Santo's men.

What has Bridge said about Rodon?

Bridge seems to believe that Rodon deserves more chances in the first-team, especially after a recent impressive outing for Wales. He has also pointed out how Swansea fans were devastated when he left, suggesting that he is a massive talent who needs to be playing regularly.

Referring to Rodon, Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “I saw him make the most amazing last-ditch tackle for Wales, which was really as good as a goal. So, you can tell he’s good. And when Swansea sold him, the Swansea fans were so angry at the fee. It’s like ‘what is going on here?’”

Should Rodon be playing more for Spurs?

When Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy managed to get the deal over the line last October, it looked like a good signing for the north London club.

Yet Rodon has rarely got a consistent run in the side to show what he can do, so it is hard to judge exactly how good he is.

What shirt number does Tanguy Ndombele wear for Tottenham?

Nuno has used Romero, Dier and Sanchez ahead of him for much of this season thus far, but the latter two have hardly shown that they are undroppable.

Indeed, Sanchez has been left out of the team in recent weeks, while Dier can make basic errors, such as the one which saw him score an own goal against Newcastle earlier this month.

Romero needs a solid defensive partner, and it may be worth giving Rodon an opportunity to prove his worth sooner rather than later.
