Journalist Emmet Gates reckons that Ibrahima Konate will have to "bide his time" before getting his chance at Liverpool.

The Frenchman was Jurgen Klopp's only summer signing, but he's made just three appearances since making the £36m move from RB Leipzig.

What's the latest news with Konate?

Following Liverpool's wretched injury problems at the back last season, bringing in a centre-back was always going to be a priority for the Reds.

Konate, who Klopp claimed he has "massive potential", proved to be that man, although by the time be joined the club, Joe Gomez, and Virgil van Dijk, who missed the majority of last season, had returned from their long-term injuries.

With that in mind, the 22-year-old has found opportunities extremely hard to come by during his early days at Anfield.

After a number of games as an unused substitute, Konate finally made his Liverpool debut in the 3-0 victory at Crystal Palace in place of Joel Matip and would keep his spot for the Carabao Cup tie at Norwich three days later.

Despite keeping clean sheets in each of those, Matip's return saw Konate demoted back to the bench, and he wouldn't find himself back in the starting XI until the 5-0 win at Manchester United more than a month later.

That start at Old Trafford came at the expense of Matip, though, with Konate perhaps called upon to deal with United's pacey attack.

He responded with a WhoScored rating of 7.33 as he helped the Reds keep another clean sheet, but Konate showed his ability to play out from the back with an impressive passing success rate of 92 percent, the fifth best on the pitch.

Konate will be hoping that performance will be a sign of things to come, but Gates thinks that the defender must remain patient.

What did Gates say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Konate will have to bide his time. But it is an odd one, because he's Liverpool's only signing, and you would think he would go straight into the team."

Is Konate van Dijk's best partner?

On this season alone, it would appear that Klopp sees Matip as his best central defender behind the Dutchman.

What is Mohamed Salah's nationality?

But for Klopp to throw Konate in for a game of the magnitude of Manchester United away, it shows that the German has plenty of confidence in his ability, he's clearly just bedding him in.

Konate reacted well to the challenge at Old Trafford, so it wouldn't be a great surprise to see the Frenchman given further chances in the coming weeks.
