Leeds news: Marcelo Bielsa's 'most consistent' £28.8m star 'drives team on by himself'

Leeds Live journalist Joe Donnohue believes winger Raphinha has a case for being the club's "most consistent player" this season.

The 24-year-old has continued to perform at an eye-catching level, despite Leeds struggling to rediscover the form that saw them finish inside the top half last term.

What's the latest news on Raphinha?

It has not been a straightforward campaign for Raphinha, who had to miss Leeds' recent defeat to Southampton after returning a matter of hours before the match following international duty.

However, he has still managed to score three top-flight goals, and he has comfortably been the side's best player, according to WhoScored, who have given him an average match rating of 7.25 in the Premier League.

There were concerns about his fitness when he was forced off in the second half last weekend against Wolves with an ankle injury.

Yet Marcelo Bielsa has allayed any fears by stating that the Brazilian forward will be available for this weekend's clash with Norwich City.

What has Donnohue said about Raphinha?

Bielsa's update will be welcomed by Leeds fans, and Donnohue has outlined just how important Raphinha is to the team at the moment.

Speaking about the attacker to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “He has been arguably the most consistent player Leeds have had, certainly in attack, because he’s just so potent. He drives the team on by himself.”

How big a boost is it for Leeds that Raphinha can play this weekend?

Raphinha, who Transfermarkt value at £28.8m, being able to take his place in the starting XI will be a huge boost for the Leeds dressing room.

The Yorkshire-based club have made a stuttering start to the campaign, winning just one of their opening nine league matches, which leaves them just a place above the relegation zone.

They have certainly not been helped by injuries within the squad, as Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling have all missed matches in recent weeks. Therefore, they could not afford for Raphinha to be sidelined for any length of time.

What shirt number does Diego Llorente wear for Leeds United?

Bamford will be absent again this weekend, meaning that Raphinha will be expected to step up to the plate, and be the main threat in the final third.

He has often handled this pressure before, though, and is likely to fancy his chances of playing a starring role against a rock-bottom Norwich side coming off the back of a 7-0 hammering at Chelsea.

With Raphinha in their team, Leeds ought to be confident of leaving Carrow Road with all three points.
