Lionel Messi endured another disappointing evening for Paris Saint-Germain on Friday evening.

The Argentine was named in the starting lineup for his side's Ligue 1 clash against Lille at the Parc des Princes.

But he was far from his best during his time on the pitch.

Messi put in a lacklustre performance and was subbed off at half-time with PSG losing 1-0.

Mauricio Pochettino later confirmed that the legendary forward was taken off as a precaution after appearing to have hurt his leg.

Messi has now played in five Ligue 1 games for PSG.

He is still awaiting his first goal in the league and hasn't even recorded an assist as of yet.

He's been so far from his best that, according to statistics provided by WhoScored.com, he has only been the 126th best player in Ligue 1 so far this season.

His average rating of 6.75 places arguably the greatest player of all time outside the top 100.

Messi really has had a disastrous start to life at PSG.

La Liga is considered a tougher league than Ligue 1. Thus, Messi was expected to dominate France's top tier straight away.

But that hasn't materialised.

He's had multiple injury problems and has struggled to produce when he's on the pitch.

PSG's other two star players - Mbappe and Neymar - haven't struggled as much, with both in the league's top 10 players this season when it comes to statistics.

It's surely only a matter of time until Messi is back to his brilliant best, but it's still surprising it's taken this long for him to get going at his new club.
