Real Madrid icon Guti's backheel assist for Karim Benzema in 2010 was truly magical

Happy birthday, Guti.

The former Real Madrid playmaker turns 45 today (October 31st).

A Halloween baby, Guti certainly was a scare for plenty of defenders during his career.

The Spaniard certainly hasn't been given the credit he deserves for a special career that included five La Liga titles and three Champions League wins with Los Blancos.

Why was Guti underrated?

After arriving at Real's youth academy at the age of 10, Guti went on to make 542 appearances over 15 seasons for the Spanish giants.

He was a part of the true 'Galacticos' era during the early-to-mid 2000s, playing alongside the likes of Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Luis Figo.

The midfielder was largely overshadowed by the superstars around him, but Real Madrid supporters who followed the team at the time will know just how good he was.

Guti's incredible assist for Benzema

Guti's teammates will also remember his talents. Indeed, Karim Benzema will probably never forget Guti's assist for him against Deportivo in 2010.

Manuel Pellegrini's side were playing away at the Riazor when Kaka found Guti on the edge of the box.

One-on-one with Deportivo's goalkeeper, it seemed for all the world that the midfielder was going to shoot. Just 12 yards out, it certainly looked like the best option.

The goalkeeper expected a shot was coming and fell to the ground. But to the surprise of everyone, Guti backheeled the ball for the onrushing Benzema.

The French striker was probably surprised to receive the ball, but he did the rest after being left with an easy finish.

The following morning, Marca featured Guti's assist on their front cover and called it 'The heel of God'.

And, while Twitter wasn't as big 11 years ago as it is today, fans still rushed to express their disbelief.

Guti was responsible for many moments of magic, and plenty of Madrid fans believe his assist for Zinedine Zidane against Sevilla in 2006 ranks ahead of the Benzema one.
