Wolves latest news: £27m Molineux star "at real risk" as Bruno Lage faces tough call

Wolves boss Bruno Lage giving instructions

Journalist Luke Hatfield feels Adama Traore could lose his starting spot at Wolves again soon.

The 25-year-old has had an inconsistent start to the season, and it seems that Bruno Lage is not completely convinced by the winger.

What's happened with Traore this season?

Traore, valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, started the campaign strongly, completing 49 successful dribbles in his first five league appearances (via WhoScored).

However, his end product was below-par, as he failed to contribute to a single goal, and this led to him being left out of the starting line-up for consecutive matches against Southampton and Newcastle.

He has been reinstated to the starting XI for Wolves' last two fixtures, but has not made the most of his reprieve. Last weekend against Leeds, he was unable to complete any dribbles, before he was hauled off in the 76th minute.

What has Hatfield said about Traore?

Hatfield has suggested that Traore was only brought back into the fold due to fellow attacker Trincao being unavailable after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Portuguese youngster was back on the bench against Leeds, and Hatfield believes he will be pushing Traore for his place in the side once he returns to his best condition.

Speaking about Lage potentially dropping Traore again, Hatfield told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s at real risk of losing his place in the starting XI. It’s not guaranteed anyway, Trincao suffering from COVID kind of helped make the decision for Bruno Lage as to whether he would be starting recently. When Trincao recovers and he’s back playing, he’s under threat there.”

Should Lage drop Traore for Trincao?

Trincao only arrived from Barcelona on a season-long loan back in July, but he has settled into English football quickly.

The early signs have been positive for the 21-year-old but he has a similar issue to Traore - his final ball leaves a lot to be desired.

In what year did Wolves seal promotion to the Premier League under the guidance of Nuno?

Like Traore, Trincao has not been directly involved in a top-flight goal this term. Meanwhile, Raul Jimenez looks to be finding his feet once more after returning from his serious head injury, while Hee-chan Hwang has been a revelation since moving to Molineux at the end of the most recent transfer window.

Lage is still looking for the final attacker to complete his front three, and neither Traore nor Trincao have made that spot their own. With Trincao seemingly not far away from being ready to start again, Lage faces a tough call to decide who to put his trust in over the next few weeks.
