Nuno Espirito Santo is facing the sack just four months after being appointed as Tottenham Hotspur head coach after it emerged that the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United prompted an urgent meeting over the future of the Portuguese according to Matt Law

Telegraph Sport can reveal that discussions were held on Sunday about whether or not Tottenham would make an immediate change, following the defeat in which Spurs failed to register a single shot on target.

Chairman Daniel Levy was said to be furious with the defeat, having already been worried by performances and results since Nuno took charge.

Italian website TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Spurs are ‘working to close’ a deal to snap up Conte, who is out of work following his departure from Inter Milan in the summer.

Conte has been linked with numerous top jobs in recent months, including the managerial roles at Man Utd and Newcastle, after winning the Scudetto at Inter last season.

TuttoMercatoWeb add that an agreement with Conte to replace Nuno – who is under severe pressure – could come in the ‘next few hours’.
