Lionel Messi's tough start to life at Paris Saint-Germain continued on Friday evening.

The former Barcelona man was hauled off at half-time in the 2-1 victory over Lille due to injury, meaning he's now failed to score or assist a goal in five Ligue 1 games.

Messi has found the back of the net three times in the Champions League, but that doesn't make his struggles in the French top-flight any less concerning for PSG.

Given that the 34-year-old was clearly not fully fit for the game against Lille, Mauricio Pochettino's decision to start him as a 'false nine' is a very puzzling one indeed.

Messi looked lost at the Parc des Princes, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner spending much of the time walking around and looking uninterested.

In fact, footage of him just standing still on the edge of the box while PSG attack has gone viral on social media.

That's not a great look, is it?

We all know Messi spends periods of each game standing around and looking for space, but in that clip, the Argentine really looks as if he doesn't care too much.

Of course, there is the distinct possibility that Messi was worried about getting seriously injured and decided not to overexert himself.

It can also be argued that he was in a fairly decent position on the edge of the box should the ball break to him, although that excuse is probably a bit of a stretch to be honest.

The South American superstar is a doubt for PSG's Champions League group stage match away at RB Leipzig due to the niggle that resulted in him being subbed off against Lille.

If he's forced to miss that game, Messi will hope to return against Bordeaux next Saturday and attempt to break his Ligue 1 duck.
