Conor McGregor has returned to training after recovering from his ankle injury and he's looking mightily powerful on the pads and seriously stacked as well.

The Irishman broke his ankle during his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, leaving his career in serious doubt.

He was unable to continue the fight that night and The Diamond was adjudged the winner via doctor's stoppage, taking the trilogy 2-1 in the process.

Notorious has since successfully undergone surgery on his leg and has been recuperating from the injury ever since.

At first, it seemed like McGregor would take a while to recover, but surprisingly, it hasn't taken too long and he is back to training.

A video has now emerged on social media, in which the Irishman is taking part in some punching practise with his trainer. It has to be said, his punches look very solid and many fans seemed quite impressed with them.

While he was recuperating, Notorious placed a lot of emphasis on weight training, which saw him gain a lot of muscle on his upper body.

He looks pretty bulky now and has been quoted as saying: "These clowns are f***** when I get back."

Speaking on his weight training, the Irishman stated: "There are pros and cons to everything. I could not move the last three months, so I brought heavy weights to me, and moved them. Repetitively. Play with the cards you are dealt. My power is up over 50 per cent."

McGregor's admirers will certainly be glad to see him training and they will be hoping that he makes a return to the Octagon as soon as possible.

It's safe to say, those who have seen the training footage have been left rather impressed.

Below you can see just a handful of responses to the clip.

And of course, there are many, many more comments given the fact it is Conor McGregor.

However, as you'd expect, not all are that complimentary, but we certainly believe he's showing massive power and also looking in great shape!

It seems highly unlikely that the 33-year-old will fight in 2021, but a bout in the first half of 2022 is quite possible.

UFC president Dana White said that a fourth fight between McGregor and Poirier would take place after the former's recovery from his ankle injury, so guess it's a case of watch this space.

Having lost four of his last five fights, the Irishman will be eager to get back to winning ways and silencing everyone that said he should retire.
