Antonio Conte to Spurs: When Italian told Thierry Henry he'd 'prefer to kill' a player with bad attitude

Antonio Conte could be the new Tottenham manager

It seems Antonio Conte will be the new Tottenham manager.

On Monday morning, Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked from his role after just four months in charge.

Spurs lost 3-0 to Manchester United at the weekend leaving them eight in the Premier League table.

And hours after Santo’s sacking, strong reports emerged suggesting Conte was set to be appointed.

Well, that escalated quickly.

If there’s one man who can fix Spurs right now, it’s Conte.

The Italian manager is infamous for his disciplinarian philosophy and certainly won’t take any prisoners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And if one clip sums up his attitude towards misbehaving players, then it’s his infamous interview with Thierry Henry.

While at Chelsea, Conte sat down with Henry to discuss management.

And when Henry asked how he deals with problematic players, Conte didn’t hold back.

“I always talk about education and respect. I give this, but I demand it,” he said. “If someone doesn’t have the right attitude during training or the right behavior, under different circumstances, then I’d rather kill them.

“If a manager closes his eyes and doesn’t want to see the bad situation, he will lose the locker room.”

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor recently spoke about that interview between Conte and Henry as well as what his former teammate, Ashley Young, said about working under the manager at Inter Milan.

“I like Conte. I saw an interview he did with Thierry Henry. Henry asked him, 'What would you do if a player didn’t obey your tactics?' And Conte replied, ‘I would probably kill them.’

What was Tottenham's heaviest victory in the Premier League last season?

“Henry laughs but Conte is very serious. He says: 'You have to respect the manager, you have to respect the tactics, you have to work hard.'

“Ashley Young, I told him about Conte, he played with him at Inter. He said to me: ‘Run non-stop, every day in training, run run run’.

“If you can’t run, you won’t play in his teams."

At the weekend, there appeared to be several players who weren’t exactly busting a gut against United.

One of them was Harry Kane, who was subsequently booed by the home fans for his disappointing performance and apparent lack of effort.

We look forward to seeing how Conte deals with the striker if he does arrive at the club…
