Mancini braced for Roma scrap over Italian midfielder

Roberto Mancini admits he is not confident of securing the services of Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, and believes the Italian international may sign a new deal with the Serie A club or be tempted by offers from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Chelsea.

De Rossi revealed earlier this week that talks to renew his current deal with Roma that expires at the end of the season had stalled, alerting City to the possibility of securing the services of the midfield playmaker.

However Mancini insists the deal is far from done, and believes the most likely possibility is De Rossi opting to stay in Italy.

"It's always difficult to get your hands on a Roman footballer and a Romanista who plays for Roma," the Citizens boss told the Corriere dello Sport.

"That's because a Roman is very attached to his origins and his way of life. As a result, I wouldn't be surprised if he renewed his contract.”

"But, if De Rossi is one day available on the market then Manchester City will be ready, as will Real Madrid, Chelsea and all the big clubs.

"He's a top player, one of those few players who can get into the very best teams in the world. He's a complete midfielder, with class and experience."

Mancini also confirmed his desire to bring Napoli trio Edinson Cavani, Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi to the Etihad Stadium, saying: “Who doesn’t want players like Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani? It won’t be easy to lure them away from Napoli, though, especially with them fighting for the Serie A title.
