Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has said that he would not be surprised if Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen played out a 'Prost/Senna' incident at the end of the season if the championship goes to the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

Formula 1 is in the midst of one of the great championship fights and, naturally, it has evoked memories of some of the best battles in the past, with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna's duels in the late 80s and early 90s perhaps the most iconic of all.

Indeed, twice the two great drivers came together at the climax of a season - handing each man a title as the outcome - and we've already seen contact between our two protagonists this year to stir up recollections of such incidents in the past.

And, with the title fight still very close and quite possibly set to go to the wire next month in the Middle East, Wolff has said he'd never be shocked if we saw another collision between the two if it meant for one of them that the title would then be secured:

"If it was to come to the scenario of the last race in Abu Dhabi and they were to be racing each other for the title, whoever is in front is absolutely going to try to do the same as in the Senna-Prost years," Wolff said to the Daily Mail.

"If you are racing for the championship and you see it fading away because the other guy is overtaking you, what tool have you got other than the one that makes sure he can't overtake?

"We've seen it with Schumacher and Villeneuve, we saw it with Senna and Prost twice.

"I would never give the instruction to crash into anyone else but if they go to that last race and whoever is in front wins the championship, they will be racing each other, hard."
