UFC 268 - Usman vs Covington 2: Who Will The Main Event Winner Face Next?

Who will Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington fight next?

Kamaru Usman is set to defend his UFC Welterweight Championship on Saturday November 6th against Colby Covington, but who will likely face the winner of the main event?

There are a number of strong contenders in the 170-pound division of the UFC for Usman or Covington to face following UFC 268.

Here’s our list of likely contenders for the winner of UFC 268’s epic main event from Madison Square Garden.

Gilbert Burns

Looking at the division rankings for Welterweight, the #2 ranked Gilbert Burns would certainly make sense.

This fight would make more sense however for Covington rather than Usman, as the Nigerian Nightmare defeated Burns at UFC 258, earning an impressive victory via TKO in the third round of the contest.

Vicente Luque

Vicente Luque is another interesting prospect for either Usman or Covington, with the #4 ranked fighter in the division already being suggested as the alternate if either man couldn’t make it to UFC 268 in MSG.

However, despite the Brazilian coming off of a 4-fight win streak, he did drop a loss to another fighter who could be considered next in line: Leon Edwards.

Leon Edwards

Leon Edwards is an intriguing fighter, as the Brit realistically should be fighting for the gold at this point anyway.

Jorge Masvidal is the next challenge for Edwards, and if he is able to get a dominant victory over the controversial fighter then he probably will be next in line for either Covington or Usman.

This all depends on whether or not he actually WANTS to take a fight with The Nigerian Nightmare or Chaos.

Khamzat Chimaev

A bit of a dark horse pick, but there is no denying that the Khamzat Chimaev hype train has got a lot more steam in it following his massively impressive victory at UFC 267 over Jingliang Li.

Is Chimaev ready for such a big step up in quality? The 10-0 fighter certainly believes that he is, although he appears to be going after a fight against a certain Diaz brother or even Masvidal next.

He said at the UFC 267 post-fight press conference: “Hey, Diaz, let’s go, brother. Let’s go. You gonna get some smoke, bro. Let’s see who is the real gangster...

“Masvidal, he has [a belt?] I don't know, [that] motherf*****g belt (referring to the BMF title) or something? I'm gonna take everything from this UFC brother, now I am UFC brother."
