Alex McCarthy is "quite likely" to extend his Southampton career by signing a new contract, according to the Sun journalist Tom Barclay.
McCarthy's current contract - worth £50,000-per-week - is set to expire next summer, meaning questions surrounding the goalkeeper's future remain.

McCarthy has been on Southampton's books since joining for an undisclosed fee from Crystal Palace five years ago.
He has gone on to make 122 appearances for Saints and has failed to miss a single minute of the Premier League season so far.
Despite becoming a key component of boss Ralph Hasenhuttl's side since the campaign got underway and it being reported that the club had opened talks over a new contract in February, no fresh agreement has been reached.
It was also thought that McCarthy, who is valued at £4.5million by Transfermarkt, was set to commit his long-term future to Southampton in the summer.
The 31-year-old revealed last month that he is enjoying life on the south coast and is looking to enter talks over fresh terms.
What has Tom Barclay said about McCarthy?
Barclay admits McCarthy has not always been at the forefront of Hasenhuttl's thinking since the Austrian was appointed as Southampton's boss in December 2018.
But the journalist is confident that the goalkeeper will be handed a new contract before his current deal expires.
He told GIVEMESPORT: "Alex McCarthy has had quite an interesting time under Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton.

"He's been out of favour, then very much in favour, looked very close to signing a new contract and then was out of the team again.
"I think he will probably be signing a new contract. That seems quite likely."
Why might Southampton decide not to hand McCarthy a new deal?
Southampton have joined the race to sign West Bromwich Albion shot-stopper Sam Johnstone when the transfer window reopens in January.
Johnstone missed just one Premier League clash for the Baggies last term but was unable to stop his current employers suffering relegation to the Championship.
The 28-year-old's West Brom contract is set to expire next summer and he was the subject of a £10million bid from West Ham United during the transfer window.
However, Albion head coach Valerien Ismael confirmed in August that the club had entered discussions over a new deal for the England international, who has won all three of his caps this year.
Ismeal has since revealed the club and Johnstone are relaxed over the situation despite the goalkeeper's future being up in the air.
