Antonio Conte is now officially the new Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The 52-year-old Italian was confirmed as the new Spurs boss on Tuesday - following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo after an underwhelming four months in charge.

Conte was Tottenham's first-choice candidate for their managerial post before Nuno was appointed over the summer. However, the club couldn't come to terms with their top target and the former Wolves head coach was awarded the role instead.

With that decision having not proved a successful one, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was in no mood to miss out on Conte for a second time.

In order to tempt the ex-Inter Milan boss into taking over a Tottenham side devoid of confidence and struggling in ninth place in the Premier League, Levy reportedly had to offer Conte a substantial salary of £13.3 million-per-year, together with a £150m 'war chest' to rejuvenate the Spurs squad.

Now, let's face it, £150m doesn't buy you as much as it once did. In fact, where certain superstars are concerned, it wouldn't even buy you a single player.

With that said, it's still a significant sum of money and - invested wisely - could help Conte to arrest Tottenham's slide.

Here are five players that Conte could realistically target in January.

Stefan de Vrij won the Serie A title under Conte last season

Stefan de Vrij (Inter)

The Dutch centre-back was a key member of Conte's Serie A-winning Inter Milan squad last year - and Conte has reportedly already expressed an interest in bringing him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, according to Football London.

The 29-year-old can bring some much-needed resilience to a leaky Spurs defence. It is believed that Inter would be willing to do business - at the right price - during the January transfer window.

Marcos Alonso was a Premier League winner under Conte

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)

Conte is likely to play with wing-backs at Spurs, in much the same way as he did at Chelsea during their 2016/17 Premier League title success. His left wing-back in that side was Alonso - and given the opportunity, Conte could do worse than reunite with his former player at Spurs.

The 30-year-old has an impressive resume and bags of top-level experience. With Ben Chilwell now beginning to establish himself in the plans of Blues' boss Thomas Tuchel, Alonso could soon find himself out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

Whether Chelsea can be persuaded to sell to their London rivals, though, is a very different question.

Milan Skriniar (Inter)

Slovakian central defender Skriniar is no stranger to Tottenham chiefs, as the club tried to sign him during the reign of Jose Mourinho.

The deal reportedly fell apart on that occasion over Spurs' unwillingness to meet Inter's £50m valuation. Given the funds promised to Conte, that shouldn't be an issue now.

There's no getting away from the fact that Tottenham need to revamp their back-line - and a raid on Conte's highly-successful former side makes a lot of sense.

Franck Kessie (AC Milan)

The well-regarded Ivorian midfielder is out of contract at the San Siro in the summer - and is currently refusing to sign an extension.

If the impasse carries on much longer, Milan could decide to cut their losses and offload Kessie for a cut-price fee in January, timing which would be ideal for Conte's rebuilding project at Spurs.

A known admirer of Kessie, Conte has reportedly already informed Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici that he wants to land the player.

Nicolo Barella (Inter)

A third potential target from his former club, Barella had a reputation as being 'Conte's favourite' during the manager's time at the Inter helm.

With that in mind, Conte would surely relish the opportunity to link-up again with the 24-year-old midfielder.

There is one slight hitch, however. Per Football 365, sources close to Barella have claimed that the £58m-rated man could 'only be tempted by Manchester United' if he were to leave Inter.

While that's not necessarily positive news, it probably won't put Conte off enquiring as to his availability.
