Newcastle World journalist Liam Kennedy would be happy to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin switch Goodison Park for St James' Park in the near future.

The Everton forward has been linked with a move to Newcastle in recent weeks after the club's takeover went through last month.

What's the latest news on Calvert-Lewin?

Calvert-Lewin is currently sidelined with a fractured toe, which has caused him to miss Everton's last seven top-flight matches.

It is a shame for the 24-year-old who started the season in top form. He scored in each of his first three appearances of the campaign against Southampton, Leeds and Brighton.

The 6 foot 2 striker still has the best part of four years left on his contract at Everton, but that does not seem to have stopped Newcastle showing an interest in signing him.

What has Kennedy said about Calvert-Lewin potentially joining Newcastle?

Kennedy has admitted that he is a fan of Calvert-Lewin's, and would love to see him playing on Tyneside.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I like Dominic Calvert-Lewin. I think he’s a really good player who probably, for me, has got one of the best coaches he could possibly have at Everton.

“I think he’ll become a real complete No. 9 working under Rafa Benitez, but would I take him at Newcastle United? Of course I would. I think he’s a level of player that I would imagine in the next 12 months the owners will be targeting.”

Would Calvert-Lewin consider moving to Newcastle?

Right now, it might be a tough sell for the Magpies to convince Calvert-Lewin to leave Everton.

While they would be able to offer him lucrative wages, it cannot be forgotten that Newcastle are currently locked in a relegation battle. After suffering another defeat to Chelsea this past weekend, they find themselves six points adrift of safety after 10 games.

Therefore, it seems that Newcastle's sole focus will be on avoiding the drop this term, while Everton will be hoping to push for Europe. Calvert-Lewin would surely prefer to be fighting at the top end of the league, so tempting him over to the North East in January will be very difficult.

However, if Newcastle do manage to stay up this year, they could then start afresh next summer, and then they may have a better chance of landing Calvert-Lewin.

Furthermore, this could actually benefit the club, as he would have had a full season to develop his skillset under Benitez at Everton, and Newcastle could be getting an even better player than if they brought him in midway through the season.
