Xavi Hernandez is expected to be named as Barcelona’s new boss, per journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Barca have been pursuing Xavi after sacking Ronald Koeman and Romano gave an update on Tuesday evening.
He wrote on Twitter: “Barcelona are still confident to complete Xavi appointment in the next few days. It’s considered “matter of time” by the club.
“Xavi only wants to join Barça and his contract is ready to be signed since last week. Here we go expected soon.”
It’s no secret that Barcelona have to strengthen their squad.
The Norwegian is perhaps the most coveted footballer in the world right now and Xavi is a big fan.
He has a release clause of €75million. Whether Barca will have the financial power to spend that much money on him, though, remains to be seen.
The Frenchman currently has seven months remaining on his current United deal and it’s looking increasingly unlikely that he will sign an extension.
As things stand, Pogba will be able to leave on a free transfer next summer but, again, he will have multiple suitors.
It is believed Xavi is also keen on deals for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
Olmo spent seven years at La Masia from 2007-2014. it is said he could be signed in January.
Barca may have a hard task persuading Sevilla to sell Kounde and he most likely won’t come cheap.
View how Barca’s starting XI could look like should they manage to sign the four players on Xavi;s wish-list…
It’s very unlikely that Barca are able to get the four players that Xavi wants.
Ranking football’s ultimate GOATS on The Football Terrace! Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, R9… Who is the greatest of all time?!
But, should they somehow manage to sign all four, they would be a force to be reckoned with once again.
As well as having a strong XI, they would be able to call upon other hugely talented players including Gavi, Ansu Fati, Sergio Aguero, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho.
They’d undoubtedly possess the squad needed to challenge both domestically and in Europe.
