Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes had completely different reactions to Cristiano Ronaldo’s two goals during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw away at Atalanta on Tuesday night.

Ronaldo salvaged a precious Champions League point for the Red Devils with a dramatic late volley.

The 36-year-old was also responsible for United’s first equalising goal of the night, scored on the stroke of half-time.

This was another unconvincing team performance from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, but they always stand an excellent chance of scoring goals with the prolific Ronaldo in their ranks.

Solskjaer compared his No. 7 to NBA legend Michael Jordan after the match, telling reporters: “I’m sure the Chicago Bulls didn’t mind having Michael Jordan. And that’s what Cristiano is like for us.

“If there is anyone you want a chance to fall to in the last minute – and a difficult chance – then it’s Cristiano. That technique on the volley is just incredible.

“We all have roles and responsibilities and for us he’s a leader and scores goals. He’s getting better and better.”

Rio Ferdinand & Paul Scholes react to Ronaldo's goals v Atalanta

United legend Ferdinand and Scholes were part of BT Sport’s punditry panel for Tuesday night’s game.

While Rio was visibly ecstatic after both of Ronaldo’s goals, Scholes’s reaction couldn’t have been more different.

After watching the footage, Peter Crouch was asked by BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey if he was having just as much fun in his studio.

“No, not at all!” the former Premier League striker said, before adding: “Scholesy was having as much fun as we were!”

Manchester United fans appear to be split

United fans are split right now. While some are like Ferdinand - still experiencing joy every time Solskjaer’s team produce a moment of brilliance - others can’t help but feel the same as Scholes.

Because the team’s recent performances have been so unconvincing, some fans are failing to experience the same level of joy, even when something incredible happens.

Most of these fans are convinced that Solskjaer should be replaced before United’s season goes completely off the rails.

But, as things stand, it seems likely that United’s current boss will still be in charge at Old Trafford after the upcoming international break.
