Sergio Perez is a man in form and a man in a confident mood ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend, with him eyeing a home race victory and then a title challenge in 2022.

Perez has been back on the podium in the last couple of races at both the Turkish and US Grands Prix whilst his qualifying performances have also picked up, suggesting he is starting to really feel at home with his Red Bull car.

His task for the rest of the season is obviously to help his team win the Constructors' title and Max Verstappen win the Drivers' title, too, but he has said he is eyeing victory at his home race this weekend and, next year, wants to challenge for the championship himself.

"I always look for the best for the team.

"Max is fighting for the Drivers' championship and we all have to support him. We are also fighting for the constructors' championship and every point is the key to achieving it.

"I have learned from Max how he takes the car to the limit from the beginning to the end. I think he is the only driver today who has that capacity.

"I want to become world champion. It is my dream and I want to do it with Red Bull and I think next year I really can achieve it. That's why I'm here."

Before that, he's going for the win on Sunday:

"It is the least my country deserves.

"I have always had amazing support no matter where I am and I am so thankful for that.

"Now I hope to win on Sunday."

Perez is a very capable driver and recent weeks have shown the quality he has to regularly achieve podiums.

The next step for him is obviously to be quick enough consistently enough to record race victories and if he can do that in 2022 then it only adds another dynamic to what looks as though it could be a fascinating championship.

2021 isn't over yet, though, and he seems ready to do all he can to seal a double title win for his team and teammate.
