Jose Sa has improved his form after the "jury was out on him" during the early stages of his Wolverhampton Wanderers career, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

Sa became one of Bruno Lage's first signings following his summer appointment as head coach, with the goalkeeper making the move from Greek side Olympiakos.

What's the latest news involving Sa?

Lage was left with little option but to seek a new first choice goalkeeper after seeing Portugal international Rui Patricio depart in favour of a £9.8million switch to Italian giants Roma.

The new Wolves boss opted to go for a cut-price option, with Sa only costing in the region of £6.25million.

After agreeing to become Patricio's replacement between the sticks, Sa confirmed he was excited to get to grips with the Premier League and work under Lage.

The 28-year-old's Wolves career got off to a shaky start, with his new employers losing their first three fixtures of the season, but the Molineux outfit have suffered just one top flight defeat since and Sa even grabbed an assist in the 1-0 win over Southampton in September.

The Portuguese shot-stopper has gone on to play every single minute of the Premier League campaign so far.

His growing importance to Lage has been further underlined by reports suggesting Sa has changed the way Wolves play.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Sa?

Hatfield admits there were initial concerns over whether Sa was a capable replacement for Patricio during the opening weeks of the season.

However, the journalist has seen Sa up his game in the fixtures since.

He believes the early doubts over Lage's signing of Sa have all but disappeared.

Hatfield told GIVEMESPORT: "Sa has come in and the jury was out on him.

"I think there were question marks asked of him. He didn't particularly cover himself in glory at the beginning of the season but, for me, he has steadily improved."

Why was Sa seen as the ideal replacement for Patricio?

Lage certainly put his faith in Sa by making him Wolves' second most expensive signing of the summer transfer window.

The 6 ft 4 goalkeeper has certainly brought a winning mentality to Molineux, having won the Greek title with Olympiakos in each of the last two seasons and previously getting his hands on the Portuguese crown during his time on the books of Porto.

Sa kept 62 clean sheets in 124 appearances for Olympiakos, allowing him to enjoy huge success.

Although Patricio remains ahead of him in the Portugal no.1 pecking order, racking up 100 caps, Sa is hot on the former Wolves man's heels after being an unused substitute on 22 occasions.
