UFC 268 this weekend is expected to be an epic event as two greats of the Octagon, Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, lock horns in the main event as the Nigerian looks to defend his welterweight title once more.
To boost Usman’s confidence for the fight, the great Khabib Nurmagomedov FaceTimed him to wish him luck for his upcoming fight.
Both Usman and Khabib know each other quite well and have a good relationship as both are managed by Ali Abdelaziz. This meeting happened whilst Ali was travelling with Usman and he received a FaceTime call from ‘The Eagle.’
The rest, as they say, is history.
Khabib said on UFC Embedded to Usman: “Really good to see you, brother. Please brother smash this guy [Colby Covington] and defend the belt.
“My energy with you, brother… Honestly, I want him to smash this guy like he did the first time. Let’s go, Kamaru. Pound-for-pound best in the world. Kamaru Usman, Nigerian Nightmare, African Power. Let’s go, brother. I’m with you.”
The Eagle wants Usman to smash Covington up as he did at the UFC 245. Although the fight had a dizzying 318 strikes in total and it went down to the last blow, Usman emerged victorious and since then went on to become the best pound to pound fighter competing today.
The champ believes that this time around, his fight with the American will be a flawless performance.
Speaking at the UFC 268 media day, he said: “For me, the wrong that I want to right is in that fight, I fought with emotion. As much emotion I was willing to display is what I fought with, which is why I think I got hit quite a bit, but it was fun. I had fun.
“That lets you know that I got a little mad man in me too. I don’t mind getting hit… I want to make it a little bit more flawless this time around.”
Usman will enter this fight as the favourite and if he wins against Covington, his record will go up to 20-1, where he would be enjoying a 19-fight winning streak while picking up his fifth title defence.
Not. Bad. At. All.
