UFC 268 Usman vs Covington 2: Dustin Poirier Reveals That Covington Could Beat Usman

Dustin Poirier gives his views on Usman vs Covington 2

UFC Lightweight #1 contender Dustin Poirier has given his thoughts on the UFC 268 mega clash between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

The 170-pound title match between Usman and Covington is set to main event the card from Madison Square Garden on Saturday, November 6th.

Despite Usman being the favourite heading into the contest, Poirier has admitted that it isn’t out of the realms of possibility for Covington to shock the world and take the win.

Appearing on the Punchin' In podcast, Poirier would say that whilst he doesn’t like the outspoken Covington, he can see him defeating ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ on Saturday.

He said: "As much as I dislike the guy [Colby Covington], that's a live dog. You're crazy if you don't think Colby can win.

“I really dislike the guy, but he can win the fight. He can win the fight.”

Covington on Usman

It’s easy to see why fighters like Poirier don’t like the controversial Covington, with ‘Chaos’ recently making more outrageous comments ahead of his Madison Square Garden event on Saturday.

Speaking at a presser ahead of the fight against Usman, Covington explained why ‘Marty Juiceman’ is his favourite nickname for an opponent in the UFC.

"I think Marty Juiceman, the CEO of EPO, it fits him pretty good, you know? A 35-year-old middle-aged man and he looks like he has a chemical imbalance.

“Guy's got acne all over his face, all over his shoulders and back. Why is that? Are you going through puberty at 35? I thought men did that at 16 or 17” the outspoken fighter stated.

Poirier is set to fight next at UFC 269 in the main event against Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira. If Poirier were to win, he will likely move on to a fourth fight against Conor McGregor, which presents the biggest box office opportunity of any fight of 2022 or even beyond at this point.
