UFC 268: Justin Gaethje backed to knock out Michael Chandler ahead of main card bout

Justin Gaethje backed to knock out Michael Chandler ahead of main card bout

Eddie Alvarez expects Justin Gaethje to put a stop to Michael Chandler's hype train with a knockout win.

Gaethje and Chandler will be out to steal the show at UFC 268 when they lock horns at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 6.

Alvarez, 37, is very familiar with both men as he has fought both of them before. The former UFC lightweight champion was submitted by Chandler in an upset in 2011, but this defeat was avenged two years later at Bellator 106.

Then, Alvarez (30-8, 2 NC) outslugged Gaethje (22-3) to get his hand raised at the end of an action-packed bout at UFC 218 back in December 2017.

Gaethje, 32, then fell short in his first shot at the lightweight title, three years after his fight with Alvarez.

Gaethje, then 31, lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov via submission due to a triangle choke in the second round of their main event in Abu Dhabi. The fight would be the Russian's last before he shocked the world by announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts.

Since then, Chandler has been the more active out of the two of them but Alvarez expects 'the second most violent man' on the planet to knock his rival out and continue his march towards the title.

The UFC legend replied to a tweet from fellow American MMA fighter Sean Brady asking: "Justin Gaethje be [sic] Chandler who ya [sic] got ???"

“True pick em," Alvarez wrote on Twitter in response to the tweet.

"Gun to my head I’m leaning Justin because of the leg kicks and the fact Mike doesn’t have a great deal of D, Mike’s easiest path is the ground, He [sic] could dominate JG there.

"But it will stay standing and I’d say the second most violent man gets it done JG KO.”

Another American user said: "Gaethje. Chandler not as resilient. If he actually follows through with his threat to blitz from the first bell, he’ll be out of there within 60 seconds."

'Shuborno' aka @Shuborno also joined in, tweeting: "Gaethje. Chandler has shown explosiveness in both UFC fights, but Gaethje showed excellent footwork and power so I don't think he is going to get caught. Easy pick to me, but it's MMA, anything could happen."
