Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Robert Lewandowski are just three of the standout performers in the Champions League so far this season.

Ronaldo has been Manchester United's saviour so far, while Salah's stunning displays have helped Liverpool wrap up top spot in Group B after just four games.

Bayern Munich's Lewandowski, meanwhile, has netted eight goals already. Even by his standards that's a ridiculous return from four matches.

Most pundits would have either Salah or Lewandowski as the best player in the world right now.

It would be hard to argue with either choice, especially considering their performances on the biggest stage.

Top 20 players in the CL this season

However, according to WhoScored's data, neither Salah, Lewandowski or Ronaldo has been the best player in the Champions League so far in the 2021/22 competition.

We've counted down the top 20 players (a tie at number 20 means 21 players are included).

To ensure more accuracy, only players who have appeared in at least three games are included. Juventus' Paulo Dybala actually has the highest rating at 9.12, but he's played in just two games.

1. Sebastien Haller (Ajax) - 8.84 rating

Haller is No.1

So Haller takes top spot ahead of Lewandowski.

The Ajax striker has been on a tear in the Champions League, scoring seven goals in total.

Four of those came in the 5-1 win over Sporting CP in September. Haller received a perfect 10 rating from WhoScored after that performance.

Haller Ajax

Praise is due to Bayern's Sane, too. After a difficult start to his career with the German club, he has bounced back and Bayern are seeing the best from him now.

As is always the case in the Champions League, a number of teams look like potential winners at this stage in the competition.

Liverpool, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Juventus have won every game they've played and an English winner could come from either defending champions Chelsea or Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

Meanwhile, we're yet to see Messi and Paris Saint-Germain get out of second gear. They might be unstoppable once they do.
