Lionel Messi is the heavy favourite to be named the winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or on November 29th.
The Argentine superstar has been far from his best since moving to Paris Saint-Germain, but there’s no doubting that he’s enjoyed a brilliant year overall.
In 37 appearances across all competitions at club level, the little genius has scored 31 goals and contributed nine assists, a magnificent return.
His goals at Barcelona helped the team win the 2021 Copa del Rey and even resulted in the Blaugrana mounting something close to a title challenge in La Liga.
Messi also starred at the Copa America back in the summer, the 34-year-old netting four goals and delivering five assists to guide Argentina to a first tournament triumph since 1993.
The numbers speak for themselves, but the silky forward has also offered so much more on the pitch throughout the course of 2021.

Despite the fact he’s now well into his 30s, Messi has regularly produced dribbles that mere mortals would not dare attempt.
One devoted fan of the global icon has compiled some of the very best examples into a compilation and unsurprisingly, the footage has gone viral on social media.
After watching the video, it’s hard not to think that Messi should scoop this year’s Ballon d’Or…

Outrageous, simply outrageous.
Is there a better sight in world football than Messi picking up the ball from deep and then charging towards the penalty area while leaving opposing men trailing in his wake? We can’t think of one.
No other player on the planet can replicate what the Argentine does with the ball at his feet and that’s why every football fan should cherish the great man’s final years at the very highest level.
That does depend on whether Messi rediscovers the best version of himself in a PSG shirt, though.
It’s been something of a struggle in the French capital thus far, but we’re banking on him to start smashing it once he returns to full fitness.
