Canelo Alvarez has been warned not to underestimate Caleb Plant ahead of their undisputed title clash in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Mexico's 31-year-old boxing pound-for-pound king puts his WBA, WBO, and The Ring super-middleweight titles on the line against the current IBF 168-pound titleholder this weekend.

And despite smashing Billy Joe Saunders to pieces the last time he wore the 10oz gloves, the Mexican has been urged not to look past Plant as they battle it out for their place in history.

Alvarez, 31, is expected to have his way with Plant, 29, but former lightweight champ Anthony Crolla reckons the American will also have some moments of success during the fight - a prediction backed by fellow Brit Charlie Edwards.

Speaking to BetfredTV, Crolla said: “Canelo had a little bit of trouble with Billy Joe Saunders.

"Billy Joe had some success and I believe that Caleb Plant will have similar.

"This is the first time in a good few years that all the titles in the division are on the line, so this was the fight to be made in the super-middleweight division.”

Canelo Alvarez will defend his super-middleweight titles in an undisputed title clash against Caleb Plant

Canelo and Plant got into a scuffle during the face-off at a news conference in September in which the latter insulted the former's mother and called him a drugs cheat.

And Edwards, the older brother of Sunny Edwards, believes his comments had the desired effect.

Edwards, 28, added: “Plant definitely ruffled Canelo’s feathers which was clear to see.

"We saw a different side to Canelo. He got uptight and a bit personal. He didn’t just attack him but he attacked the whole team.

"Plant wants to go out there and claim all those titles and he’s a great fighter. You can’t write him off."

Edwards is naturally leaning towards an eighth straight win in a row for Canelo but admits it's not quite as one-sided as it may seem going into the contest.

When pressed further on the subject, the 28-year-old said: “We all know that Canelo is the crème de la crème but Plant is a very good fighter. He’s underrated despite the fact that he’s a world champion.

"People are brushing him aside assuming it’s going to be another Canelo win but I think it will be very close for the early rounds.

"Canelo midway will probably start taking over, but I think that Plant will make it to the end. I think it will be a lot closer than everybody else thinks.”
