Valencia are confident of keeping Manchester United defender target Adil Rami in January, according to reports.

The French international has emerged as a target for the Red Devils, with claims last week that Sir Alex Ferguson has sent scouts to monitor the player's progress in La Liga.

However, further reports in Spain today claim Los Che are confident of keeping the player out of the clutches of Manchester United, although are unwilling to offer the 25-year-old a new deal.

Currently on a four-year contract at the Mestalla stadium, a €25 million minimum fee release clause appears to be the figure the Red Devils will have to meet if they want to add the centre back to their ranks at Old Trafford.

Ferguson has a plethora of options at centre back, with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all vying for first team opportunities.

Injury problems did expose a vulnerable Manchester United earlier in the season, and after falling behind Manchester City in the league table, the Scot is being tipped to raid the transfer market in the New Year.

Whether central defence is high on the priority list remains up for debate, although such a high figure would demand a decent level of game time for the former Lille star.
