The Sun's Tom Barclay has claimed that Eberechi Eze could return to Crystal Palace's matchday squad for their game against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Eze has been out of action since mid-May with a serious Achilles injury, but he appears to be closing in on a return to first-team action.

What's the latest news involving Eze?

When Eze first suffered his injury in training towards the end of last season, he was expected to be sidelined for at least six months, and that was arguably an optimistic prognosis given the nature of the tendon issue.

However, he has worked his way back to his best condition ahead of schedule, and managed to get 62 minutes under his belt for Palace's Under-23s against Blackburn on Monday.

The youth team lost that match 2-1, but that is unlikely to have dampened Eze's mood, who was reportedly in contention to make Gareth Southgate's Euros squad in the summer prior to his fitness setback.

What has Barclay said about Eze?

GIVEMESPORT asked Barclay if Eze, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, is likely to be back in contention for Palace's senior side after the upcoming international break.

Barclay responded by saying: “I was thinking that was the case. But, I think there’s a chance that he might be on the bench at the weekend. At least, he’s got a decent chance, I think.”

Should Eze be named in Palace's squad on Saturday?

There is an argument that it is not worth the risk, given how long he has been away from the pitch for. Allowing him to build his fitness up even more over the two-week international break may be the smart move from Patrick Vieira, rather than rushing him back this weekend.

However, it should ultimately come down to how Eze is feeling after his outing on Monday. He appeared to come through the game unscathed, and if he is fit and healthy, it could be a good idea to get him back with his teammates as quickly as possible.

He proved last season that he is a quality operator by registering 10 top-flight goal contributions, so Vieira may want to have him as an option up his sleeve, who he can potentially turn to in the latter stages against Wolves to make a difference if he needs a goal from somewhere.
