Journalist Tom Barclay reckons that highly-rated youngster Fabio Carvalho could leave Fulham in January.

The 19-year-old, who only made his senior debut for the Cottagers last September, is out of contract at the end of the season and has rejected a new deal, a story broke by Barclay himself.

What's the latest news with Carvalho?

The teenager has been a sensation this term , but his future already looks to be away from West London despite playing just 13 times for the first-team.

Carvalho burst on the scene by scoring at Southampton on his full Premier League debut last April, which would allow him to enjoy a run in the side after Fulham's relegation was confirmed.

The attacker has taken his game up a level in the Championship, though. Carvalho scored in three consecutive games in August in what proved a blistering start to the season before a toe problem saw him miss more than two months of action.

He made his comeback from the bench in Fulham's recent victory over West Brom and played the final 17 minutes at Blackburn in midweek.

But with Fulham unlikely to make an increased contract offer following his recent rejection, Barclay reckons that Carvalho could leave as early as January, with Marco Silva's side reluctant to let him leave on a free next summer.

What did Barclay say about Carvalho's situation?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "From what I'm told from a Fulham point of view, I would be expecting Carvalho to be leaving maybe even in January, because he's out of contract in the summer."

Can Fulham replace Carvalho?

The thought of not having Carvalho in their side when they scored 13 goals in their opening five matches, whilst collecting 13 points in the process was probably a daunting thought for Fulham fans.

Who is this manager who lasted just 84 days?

However, since the youngster has been injured and out the team, Silva's men have arguably played better, with Neeskens Kebano coming into the side to allow Bobby Decordova-Reid to move into Carvalho's role and play centrally.

Should he depart either in January or next summer, it'll be the latest blow in a long line of academy graduates to leave – Ryan Sessegnon, Patrick Roberts and Harvey Elliott, the obvious examples – but Fulham have already shown that there's life after Carvalho in recent games.
