Manchester derby: Alex Ferguson's interview after Man Utd 1-6 Man City was top class

Sir Alex Ferguson remained calm after Man Utd 1-6 Man City...

Premier League fans will never forget the day that Manchester United were thrashed 6-1 by Manchester City at Old Trafford.

On October 23rd, 2011, Roberto Mancini’s side rocked up to the home of the fiercest rivals and played them off the park from start to finish, showing the world that they really were the newest force in the English top-flight.

Braces from Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, as well as goals from dynamic duo David Silva and Sergio Aguero, secured the most emphatic of victories for City at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jonny Evans’ red card early in the second half for a last-man foul on Balotelli certainly aided the away side in their quest for bragging rights, but the fact still remains that the Citizens were scarily good on the day.

United just could not lay a glove on them, barring Darren Fletcher’s brilliant long-range strike that turned out to be merely a consolation.

And people wonder why he’s regularly referred to as the managerial GOAT, eh?

After watching chaos unfold in front of his eyes, Ferguson still had the presence of mind to realise how important the game would be with regards to goal difference at the end of the season.

As well all know very well, it ultimately proved to be season-defining.

City secured their first Premier League title in 2011/12 by virtue of the fact that they had a superior goal difference to United.
