There are just a matter of hours now between us and the Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington rematch, so what better time to re-watch a brutal KO from the past?

Usman beat Covington back in December of 2019 and he is looking to do the same this time around at UFC 268.

One man who he already has overcome twice is Jorge Masvidal, including with the brutal knockout in question.

Usman came under scrutiny for the way in which he dealt with Miami-born Masvidal the first time around but nothing negative can be made of this one.

'The Nigerian Nightmare', as he is affectionately nicknamed, floored Masvidal in the second round and left him seeing stars.

Usman’s shot was so devastating that his opponent’s corner had to explain to their man what had just transpired.

Usman may fight out of Florida but it was the local man Masvidal who had the backing of the Jacksonville crowd.

That being said, there was a certain level of respect and admiration for the victor and the outrageous way in which he cut the fight short.

Retirement is a question currently surrounding Usman and has been since the second win over Masvidal but if that display was anything to go off, then he still has plenty more to give the UFC.

At 34, he is getting towards the twilight stages of his career so maybe he will speak on this topic following the second instalment of Usman-Covington.

Social media is often quick to react to this calibre of events and that was again the case.

Whether it be Anthony Joshua losing to Oleksandr Usyk or the whole McGregor versus Khabib saga, combat sports and Twitter explosions go hand-in-hand.

A defeat to Jose Caceres early in his career is the only blemish on Usman’s record albeit not a UFC bout, so he will be looking to continue to dominate the sport when he meets Covington this weekend.

Will he make it 20-1?
