Lionel Messi has reportedly already been told that he's won the 2021 Ballon d'Or.

The Argentine superstar has been the big favourite to scoop the accolade for many months now, mainly due to his heroics at the Copa America in the summer.

And according to Portuguese television channel RTP, Ballon d'Or number seven will be held aloft by Messi at a ceremony in Paris on November 29th.

They claim that the Paris Saint-Germain forward has already been informed of his victory by France Football.

RTP also add that Messi has given an interview to the French publication.

We obviously cannot confirm whether the report is 100% true, but it certainly would be something of a shock if it turns out to be false and another player wins the award.

In the eyes of many, Messi is a deserving winner after yet another incredible year overall.

He's scored goals for fun at club and international level in 2021, while also keeping a bang average Barcelona under Ronald Koeman afloat with a string of masterclasses.

However, there are some who believe that Messi is not worthy of winning world football's most prestigious individual accolade this year.

They will point to Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, who's scored far more goals than anyone else in 2021.

The Polish striker was incredibly unfortunate to miss out on the Ballon d'Or in 2020, with the award postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
