Journalist Luke Hatfield thinks West Brom winger Grady Diangana has been off the pace for a while at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies spent £12.15m on Diangana last September when Slaven Bilic was still at the helm, but he has struggled to make his mark in the Midlands.

What are Diangana's stats this season?

The 23-year-old has featured in 14 Championship matches under Valerien Ismael, but is yet to find the net this term.

Indeed, he has managed just a single assist in this period, which came during a 4-0 away win at Cardiff, suggesting that he is not offering much to West Brom at the moment.

According to WhoScored, Diangana has only been West Brom's 19th-best player in 2021/22, earning a disappointing average match rating of 6.31, and this has led to him being dropped to the bench in recent weeks.

What has Hatfield said about Diangana?

Hatfield admits that he admires Diangana, but has conceded that the forward has not been at his best for some time.

Reflecting on Diangana's time at West Brom, Hatfield told GIVEMESPORT: “We’ve not seen enough of Diangana. I am a massive fan of him, but we’ve not seen him truly shine in Albion colours for a long time now.

“He needs to recapture that. I’m not too sure whether the system itself quite suits him down to the ground. But ultimately, he’s got to cope and find a way to do it.”

Can Diangana be a success at West Brom?

It must be remembered that Diangana is still only 23, and he has the best part of four years left on his contract, so there is no need to start panicking yet.

Still, his form over the last 14 months since he joined West Brom permanently has been concerning. He managed just one goal in the Premier League last season, and his fortunes in front of goal have not improved this year either.

Attackers are often judged on their goals and assists, and Diangana has not been delivering in these areas for over a year now.

The Championship season is a long and busy one, so he should get the chance to turn things around at some point, but he needs to start taking his opportunities or he will be reduced to a peripheral figure in the West Brom squad over the coming months.
