EA Sports go all out with their statistics in the FIFA video game series.

Year on year, the footballing world tears their hair out in fits of debate as they discuss the latest round of player ratings, which might be the most extensive ranking system in the beautiful game.

Do they always get it right? Of course not, but you could task anyone and everyone with trying to rank every top-class footballer and you could be certain that each of them would make a few errors.

FIFA 22 player ratings

Well, that and the fact that it's crazily difficult to even define what an error might because although the goal is an objective system, a level of subjectivity is required to get there in the first place.

However, before we tie ourselves in cranial knots, let's remember that the top-line player ratings that we see on FIFA are actually dictated by a series of in-game statistics for various attributes.

Not only does each player have their overall rating that appears on their FUT card, but they are also given a score out of 100 for everything from acceleration to slide-tackling and much, much more.

As such, in theory, the player who had the highest score when you added them all together would unofficially be the most footballer in the sport, right?

Most complete players on FIFA 22

Well, working with that theory, we headed over to the FIFA 22 database on Futhead and ranked every single normal FUT card by the sum total of all of their in-game ratings.

And spoiler alert, the results are fascinating because although Lionel Messi might be the highest-rated player in the game overall, he'll have to settle for 22nd place in the completeness standings.

So, without further ado, be sure to take a look at who EA Sports considers to be the world's most complete footballers by checking out the players with the highest combined stats down below:

Fernandes: The most complete footballer

Fair play, Mr. Fernandes. It feels right that United's goals and assists machine takes the prize because the Old Trafford faithful will vouch for just how multi-talented he really is in central midfield.

Whether it's racing back to defend or whipping in free-kicks, Fernandes is just as happy sliding in with tackles as he is providing killer passes, so it's fair to say that he's a complete footballer.

And being amongst the flailing legs and constant transitions of midfield certainly helps when it comes to ticking a lot of the statistical boxes on FIFA with Goretzka and De Bruyne next in line.

However, make no mistake that being a defender with an eye for goal is pretty advantageous, too, because Ramos' position is almost certainly inflated by his uncanny ability to hit the back of the net.

But are there really 21 footballers who are more complete than Messi? Well, in the opinion of the sport's biggest video game series, the answer is undoubtedly 'yes', but it could be worse.

Why? Well, that's because poor old Cristiano Ronaldo is forced to settle for 31st place. Ouch.
