And in the wake of his return to Catalonia, the three-time La Liga Midfielder of the Year's individual highlights from one of those international triumphs have gone viral on social media.
The tournament in question is, of course, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where Xavi was simply a cut above the rest.

Xavi just made the game look so easy and it's hard to think of many players in history who could replicate the array of passing he displayed throughout Spain's journey in South Africa.
And the great man's cheeky little back-heel pass to David Villa versus Portugal that helped La Roja eliminate their Iberian rivals really was pure magic.
Xavi was duly named in the 2010 World Cup's Dream Team for his string of masterclasses.
He missed out on the coveted Golden Ball accolade due to the fact that Diego Forlan morphed into a hybrid of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at that tournament.
But despite failing to scoop that award, Xavi's performances out in South Africa will forever be the stuff of legend and the argument can certainly be made that it's the greatest ever World Cup campaign by a midfielder.
