Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Tottenham are targeting players who are nearing the end of their contracts at their current clubs.
Spurs have finished outside the top four in each of their last two campaigns, and it looks like new manager Antonio Conte will have to bring in some fresh faces in January to end this run without Champions League football.
Who have Tottenham been linked with?
The north London club have recently been linked with Serie A duo Stefan de Vrij and Dusan Vlahovic. Both players are out of contract in June 2023, and Conte knows the former after they previously worked together at Inter Milan.
Tottenham are also believed to be leading the race for Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho, whose deal at Craven Cottage expires next summer.
What has Brown said about Tottenham's transfer policy?
Brown believes Tottenham are focused on trying to sign players who do not have long-term contracts. He has also suggested that the Premier League outfit are keen to strike deals with clubs who are willing to sell their key assets.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Spurs' transfer policy, Brown said: “Almost all of the players they’ve been looking at are heading towards the end of their contracts, and are at clubs who have openly said: ‘yes, we are sellers in the next few windows.’”

Is this a smart strategy from Tottenham?
Absolutely.
Tottenham do have several high-quality players in their squad, but there are areas of their team that must be improved if they are going to have a chance of finishing inside the top four.
This means that the club will need to spend money to strengthen their squad, but they must be clever with which players they target, as they do not have endless funds.
That is why it is a wise move to go after players who are close to the end of their contracts. By choosing to go with this method, it seems unlikely that Spurs will have to pay over the odds, and this could mean that they can make more additions to their team, rather than spending big on one or two expensive players.
This strategy should allow them to build a well-rounded squad with very few weaknesses, which should give Conte the best opportunity of bringing Champions League football back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
