In a performance for the ages, Kamaru Usman was relentless as he took down Colby Covington for the second time to ensure he retained his welterweight title.Having won the belt back in March 2019 when he defeated Tyron Woodley, Usman has been on a rise ever since, and his career has hit a new height yet again with another ruthless display against Covington.Since becoming champ, the Nigerian Nightmare has defeated Covington twice, Jorge Masvidal twice and Gilbert Burns. In fact, Usman is still undefeated in his UFC career, winning 15 from 15, and has improved his professional MMA record to 20-1 following victory in New York. Many had touted Covington as the most difficult opponent for Usman in the welterweight division, so the question now is, what’s next for the Nigerian? In an interview with Daniel Cormier ahead of the bout, Usman had this to say about Covington’s antics in the build-up to UFC 268.

“It gets to a certain point you’re just competing. You know what we compete for. We want to compete, and get the bag, and go home, and go lay up with our kids. That’s what we want.

“So it gets to that point. He’s still chasing that. He’s chasing that feeling that we get now because we have become champ, we’ve defended, we are known worldwide as the man.

"And that’s the feeling he is still chasing and that he will never feel as long as I am in the way.”
