Paul Scholes: Man United legend took dig at Chelsea after Man City defeat

Paul Scholes still fancies Man Utd's chances against Chelsea

Manchester United were well beaten by Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils succumbed to a 2-0 defeat, with Eric Bailly (own-goal) and Bernardo Silva on the scoresheet for the visitors.

United are now nine points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League table.

But, despite being outclassed by both Liverpool and Man City in recent weeks, Scholes is adamant that United wouldn't have as many problems against Chelsea.

Following his former side's defeat to City, Scholes said: "Are we really surprised by United being short of City and Liverpool? I don't think they are massively short of Chelsea in all honesty. I think they can go and beat teams like Chelsea."

He added: "I think the same now is going to happen again. We're going to struggle against the big teams. We might go on a run now, beat all the teams we're expected to, and then think we're a good team again."

The comments come just a few weeks after Scholes branded Chelsea's defence as the weakest of the top four.

While arguing with a Chelsea fan on The Overlap, Scholes said: “I also don’t think you’re great defensively.

“I think [Antonio] Rudiger’s been really good but, other than that, you’ve got Thiago Silva who’s 36 or 37, Andreas Christensen’s a young player… I think in the middle of the pitch you’re alright. Jorginho and [N’Golo] Kante are really good players.

“I’m just not sure that you’ll score enough goals and that you’re defensively good enough.”

He added: "Liverpool have got the best centre-backs, [Manchester] City have got two great ones, I think United have got two really good ones.

“I think Chelsea are probably the weakest out of the top four defensively.”

Scholes could end up looking very, very silly when United travel to Stamford Bridge for their Premier League clash against Chelsea on November 28.
