The Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield thinks Jonny returning to action will be a major boost for Wolves.

Jonny has not featured for the Midlands-based side for over seven months after he suffered a serious knee injury back in March.

What's the latest news on Jonny?

The 27-year-old has had wretched luck with injuries in recent years. He suffered his first ACL injury in the summer of 2020, which caused him to miss the opening 22 league matches of last season.

He made his comeback in early February, and played in seven straight Premier League matches, before disaster struck once again. He picked up another injury to his ACL, and has not returned to the pitch since.

However, there appeared to be positive news on Jonny's rehabilitation late last month, when Wolves' official Twitter account released a short video of the Spanish international training in the gym at Compton Park.

What has Hatfield said about Jonny?

Hatfield was impressed by Jonny, who Transfermarkt value at £13.5m, prior to his fitness issues, and thinks his return will be a huge boost for Bruno Lage's men.

When asked about how important Jonny's comeback will be for Wolves, Hatfield told GIVEMESPORT: “That’ll be big for them. Jonny was fantastic, this is before he picked up those two serious knee injuries, which is odd because he was playing out of position.

“He’s typically a right-sided player but he’s featured on the left so much for Wolves. He offers a really good defensive style that they have missed, to be honest.”

When could Jonny make his comeback?

When Jonny first picked up the blow, it was expected that he would be out for a minimum of six months, and it seems that Wolves are being cautious with him, given that he has injured the same knee twice in quick succession.

It appears that he is yet to get back out on the grass, so his return is probably still a number of weeks away.

Wolves will hope it's not too long, though. Marcal and Rayan Ait-Nouri have both been given opportunities in Jonny's absence, but neither man has truly made the position their own.

If Jonny can get back to his best condition soon and start playing somewhere near his best, he could have a good chance of reclaiming his place in Wolves' starting XI in the not-too-distant future.
