The weekend's main event in the sporting world was in Las Vegas with the fight between Caleb Plant and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
All the belts held by Alvarez and Plant were at stake.
Canelo went into the fight in possession of the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), and World Boxing Organization (WBO) super middleweight titles, while Plant held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight title.
Both fighters went into the MGM Garden Arena aiming to be boxing’s first undisputed super-middleweight champion and Canelo won the fight, knocking out Plant in the 11th round to gain the title.
The purse reports of the match highlight the Mexican’s standing in the sport, his ‘guaranteed’ purse standing at £30 million before any pay-per-view bonuses are added on.
Plant is also set to earn at least £7.4m for his part in the first-ever, undisputed super-middleweight title decider.
The purses pre-fight were made known by Dan Rafael, PPV successes will be added later.
Canelo often referred to as the best pound-for-pound boxer, is already one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, making an estimated £23.7m from his fights against Callum Smith and Avni Yildirim according to Forbes Magazine.
His last win against Billy Joe Saunders, in May, earned the Mexican close to £25m.
The 31-year-old is reported to have real estate investments, as well as plans to set up gas stations in his native Mexico. According to reports, Plant is also a millionaire and has a current estimated net worth of £1.5m
Canelo become a free agent a year ago, and since then he has been able to negotiate with promoters independently to secure himself the best possible deals for his fights.
For his fights with Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders, he worked with Eddie Hearn on DAZN. For Plant, he’s worked with Al Haymon on Showtime PPV.
