However, just a few minutes before half-time, Liverpool were level.

They were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Trent Alexander-Arnold curled it beautifully into the top corner after Mohamed Salah's little layoff.

A West Ham win would move them above Liverpool into third in the Premier League as they look to continue their brilliant start to the season. They would also move level on points with Manchester City and just three behind Chelsea at the top.

Meanwhile, Liverpool would have been looking to capitalise on Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday.

They went into the game knowing that a victory would put them within one point of Thomas Tuchel's side.
