Donny van de Beek's dynamic play would offer Wolverhampton Wanderers something different if Bruno Lage can attract the Manchester United outcast to Molineux, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

It has been reported that van de Beek, who has changed agents in a bid to secure a move away from Old Trafford, has held discussions with Wolves and Premier League rivals Everton over a potential loan deal during the January transfer window.

What's the latest news involving van de Beek?

Van de Beek headed to the English top flight last year, joining Manchester United in a switch that could prove to be worth £40million.

The creative midfielder was on United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's radar after making 175 appearances for Ajax, with his 41 goals and 34 assists playing a key role in him being able to win silverware with the Eredivisie giants.

But van de Beek's Old Trafford career has not gone to plan, with him only making 40 appearances ahead of yesterday's Manchester derby.

The 24-year-old, who was labelled as 'quality' by United team-mate Bruno Fernandes ahead of the campaign getting underway, is still waiting to make his first Premier League start of the season.

It has led to Solskjaer admitting to understanding van de Beek's frustrations but the Norwegian insisted he "can't have sulkers" in his squad.

What has Luke Hatfield said about van de Beek?

Hatfield believes Wolves should take advantage of van de Beek's frustrations at Manchester United by welcoming the Dutchman to Molineux.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "He would offer Lage something he doesn't have in Wolves' midfield right now.

"He would offer something different. Joao Moutinho is not getting any younger. Ruben Neves obviously put in a really good performance against Everton, but we've got to see that consistently from him.

"The likes of Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss, who can play there, are not going to be quite as forward thinking so he would offer something different, something more dynamic."

Why is Lage looking to sign a creative midfielder?

Lage only has four central midfielders - in the form of Ruben Neves, Leander Dendoncker, Moutinho and Bruno Jordao - at his disposal.

However, they have only grabbed two goals between them this season, so Wolves could benefit from a goalscoring midfielder.

Van de Beek is certainly a threat in the final third when given the opportunity, with statistics showing he has scored close to 70 goals in club football.
