Journalist Paul Brown has claimed West Ham are still looking for another striker to add to their squad.

The Irons have one of the most in-form attackers in the division in Michail Antonio, but their options behind the 31-year-old are limited.

What is the striker situation at West Ham?

Antonio has established himself as the undisputed first-choice forward at the London Stadium over the past 18 months, scoring 10 league goals in each of his last two full seasons.

However, West Ham have struggled to find a suitable understudy. They did sign Sebastien Haller for £45m in July 2019, but he lasted just 18 months before he moved to Ajax for just over £20m at the start of 2021.

Therefore, the team do not have a direct replacement for Antonio, as things stand.

What has Brown said about West Ham's search for a striker?

Brown believes West Ham want to bring in someone who can act as cover for Antonio if he picks up a fitness issue.

He thinks the east London club want to find a player who suits their system better than Haller did during his brief spell in the capital.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “The big question mark is what happens if Antonio gets injured at any point, but I think they are on the market for somebody who might fit better into that team than Haller ever did.”

Who could West Ham try to sign in January?

West Ham have been linked with a number of strikers in recent months, including Arsenal duo Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

Lacazette has proven himself at the highest level over the past four years at the Emirates, scoring over 50 Premier League goals. Meanwhile, Nketiah is still only 22, and looks to be an exciting prospect.

If West Ham could get either of these players, they would be fine additions to come off the bench or even start alongside Antonio.

Still, if they don't add a striker to their ranks, it might not be the end of the world. Jarrod Bowen has filled in up front at times this season, and has not looked out of place.

Therefore, it seems that West Ham could probably cope with having Antonio and Bowen as their forward options for this year, as they try to compete both domestically and in Europe.
