Just when Manchester United thought they couldn’t sink much lower following their 5-0 humiliation to Liverpool last month, the Manchester derby came along.

While their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City wasn’t quite as embarrassing as the Liverpool result, it was an equally poor performance.

United were completely and utterly outplayed by Pep Guardiola’s side, who looked as though they could have scored more if they really wanted to.

It means there’s now enormous pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job.

And that pressure is going to intensify among United fans when they read a new report from Chris Wheeler in the Daily Mail.

The report reveals the inside story of the current situation at Old Trafford following the derby defeat - and it really doesn’t sound good to Solskjaer.

It claims that United are now ‘giving serious consideration’ to sacking Ole. They had planned to keep him until the end of the season but humiliating losses to both Liverpool and City have ‘changed things’.

Moreover, players such as Bruno Fernandes feel they aren’t getting enough direction while Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘alarmed’ by how much standards have lowered since he left the club.

The players also sympathise with Donny van de Beek and the way he’s being treated by Solskjaer.

Also, many were surprised by the inclusion of Marcus Rashford on Saturday after he had missed all the match preparations due to an illness.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future in doubt

The report says: “Manchester United’s plans to keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge until the end of the season have been thrown into disarray by the calamitous performances against Manchester City and Liverpool.”

It seems Solskjaer’s job really is in danger now.

Bruno Fernandes lacks a ‘clear plan’

The report says: “It is understood that Fernandes is among the players who feel as though they aren’t being given a clear plan by Solskjaer and his overgrown backroom team, with others expressing concern that too many young coaches are learning on the job.”

Fernandes’ numbers have fallen off a cliff this season as he struggles to hit the high standards he has set himself since joining United.

Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘shocked’

The report says: “Ronaldo was well aware when he returned to United that times had changed in the 12 years he had been away, but the Portugal star is said to be shocked at just how far the standards have slipped.

“His frustration boiled over again when he was booked for a cynical late challenge on Kevin De Bruyne, having escaped a red card against Liverpool when he hacked out at Curtis Jones.”

Ronaldo’s frustrations are clear for all to see during matches when things aren’t going well. The 36-year-old has produced some moments of magic this season but he must feel as though he’s carrying this side at times.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shows ‘favouritism’

The report says: "There is also a feeling within the dressing room that Solskjaer shows favouritism to some players and is too soft on the squad.

“Harry Maguire continues to be selected despite a catastrophic loss of form which sources believe started after playing for England at the Euros. Luke Shaw, too, hasn’t been the same player since the tournament.”

It’s true that Solskjaer seems to just keep picking the same team every single week no matter the result. It’s time for him to drop a few players, we think.

Teammates ‘don’t understand’ the treatment of Donny van de Beek

The report says: “Yet Van de Beek continues to be largely frozen out by Solskjaer who is also ignoring Jesse Lingard. There are fears that Sancho’s career is stagnating little more than three months after his £73million arrival from Dortmund.

“Van de Beek’s team-mates don’t understand why he hasn’t been given more of a chance since his £40m move from Ajax.”

Van de Beek was played a bit-part role ever since he was signed for £35 million in September 2020. The reaction from the crowd on Saturday suggests they also feel the same as the players.

Players ‘mystified’ by Marcus Rashford’s inclusion

The report says: “Rashford did not train on Thursday or Friday — and stayed away from the team hotel before the derby — but was deemed a better option than Lingard or Anthony Martial when he was sent on in the 67th minute.

“The decision mystified his team-mates and an under-par Rashford struggled to offer anything as United slipped to another chastening defeat.”

Oh dear.
