Marlon Vera claimed his 10th UFC bantamweight victory on Saturday night following his brutal third-round knockout over Frankie Edgar at Madison Square Garden. The 28-year-old now holds the record for the most finishes in the division, whilst former lightweight champion Edgar now sits with just one win from his last five UFC bouts. On an absolutely stacked card in New York, fans were expecting nothing short of a war between these two and they certainly didn’t disappoint. All three judges scored the first-round in favour of Edgar, who secured a take-down and out-struck Vera in the opening five minutes of the bout, landing 77% of his significant strikes. The 40-year-old tried the same in the second round but was less successful. Despite scoring a take-down, he faced a flurry of up-kicks from a grounded Vera before the Ecuadorian threw a huge knee in the face of Edgar which rocked the former champion.Slowly but surely Vera was closing the distance, and in the final round, it paid dividends.

Having stuffed an early takedown attempt and quickly recovering from another, he managed to showcase his stand-up game and provided the finishing blow with just 70 seconds remaining in the fight.

A swift front kick to the jaw of Edgar dropped the former champion instantaneously and left the New Jersey native with a picture to forget, with his face looking particularly mangled from the kick.

Vera’s pinpoint timing and coordination has given UFC fans this gem of a picture, just seconds before Edgar’s collapse.

“The Answer” had never been finished in a UFC fight before his TKO loss to Ortega in 2018, but has now been put to sleep in three of his last four, including a brutal flying knee from Cory Sandhagen and expert striking from the Korean Zombie.
