A WWE fan in South Africa was desperate to earn a contract with Vince McMahon's company, and bizarrely thought attacking Randy Orton was the best way to go about it.

Back in 2013, at a WWE Live Event in South Africa on July 30, a WWE fan ran into the ring to attack Randy Orton after his match.

Randy Orton, who clearly didn't know what was happening, was hit in the groin by the fan, before he was taken down and escorted out of the ring by security.

Just as the fan was being escorted out of the ring by security in Cape Town, Orton was able to sneak in a quick kick on the man, which left him with a black eye.

While the situation seemed strange at the time, additional details surrounding the fan's motivation for the attack on the former WWE Champion make this situation even more bizarre.

After his match with Big E (then Big E Langston) Randy Orton was attacked by Tshepo Sekhabi, who was so desperate to attack Orton that he quit his job to make sure he made the show.

After the incident, Tshepo Sekhabi spoke to eNCA about why he attacked Orton, explaining that he just didn't like the former WWE Champion, and saw the opportunity to make a statement.

"I just don’t like Randy Orton. This was an opportunity for me, so I got up there and made a name for myself."

Sekhabi's disdain for Orton wasn't the only reason behind the attack, with it being alleged that the 20-year-old wanted to earn a contract with WWE and thought the incident would get the attention of management.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Tshepo Sekhabi, who was known on the independent scene as "Jozi The Wrestling Machine" didn't earn a contract with WWE after attacking one of its top stars.

WWE commented on the matter on its official website in the days that followed, announcing that Sekhabi had been taken to court:

WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton was violently attacked by an audience member during a SmackDown World Tour Live Event in Cape Town, South Africa, Tuesday evening. Footage of the attack was captured by a WWE fan and posted to YouTube, and shows the perpetrator striking The Viper from behind. Orton reportedly suffered an injured groin in the attack but is well enough to have performed Wednesday night in South Africa.

The accused party pleaded guilty in court yesterday, August 1, 2013, and was charged and ordered to either pay a fine of 500 Rand or, alternatively, serve 30 days in jail. After acknowledging his wrongfulness, the accused individual was given a three-year suspended sentence, and is not permitted to attend WWE’s Live Events in Johannesburg, South Africa, this week.

Some speculated that the incident was actually a work, despite the fact that WWE pressed charges against the man. Orton strongly denied these rumours in an interview with Gorilla Position:

"No… No… we pressed charges. Oh yeah, yeah, did you think it was a work!?... I got hit in the balls! Imagine standing on a tight rope and about to extend your arms out in the open to do your pose that people have recognized for almost a decade after a match that you have won in South Africa at the beginning of a five-day tour and as you’re completely in your own little world going, ‘Oh, I’m so glad it’s over’ because you can’t wait to go back to your hotel and take a shower and eat some catering… you get hit in the balls."
