AVB concedes to 'superior' Liverpool

Andre Villas-Boas admitted Liverpool were "superior" to his Chelsea side as they slumped to defeat in the Carling Cup last night.

Despite describing the performance as "not good", the Portuguese manager said he was heartened by the displays of the younger players.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish hailed the influential performance of Craig Bellamy as the Reds continued their impressive winning run.

Elsewhere last night, Manchester City beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates, despite the home side dominating the majority of the Quarter-Final clash.

Arsene Wenger's side simply could not find a way through City, who grabbed a late Sergio Aguero winner - their one shot on target.

Manchester United face Crystal Palace in the last Quarter-Final tonight, looking to join Cardiff City, Liverpool and Manchester City in the semis.

Sir Alex Ferguson will field a relatively inexperienced side, with young talent including Ravel Morrison and Paul Pogba set to play.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are in Europa League action tonight, facing PAOK Salonika in what Harry Redknapp called a "must win" game.

With Roman Palyuchenko injured, Jermain Defoe is in line to start up front, while promising youngsters Tom Carroll and Harry Cane will also feature.
