Manchester United fear they could lose promising youngster Paul Pogba to bitter rivals Manchester City.

Pogba arrived at Old Trafford two years ago amid much brouhaha from Le Havre and now it looks as though he could be heading to the Etihad Stadium, according to The Independent.

The defensive midfielder's contract at Manchester United runs out in the summer and Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to tie him to another deal.

However, Roberto Mancini is thought to be keen on bringing the player to Manchester City, who signed for the Old Trafford side amid accusations of 'poaching' from the Le Havre president.

Although Arsenal, Inter and AC Milan are all thought to have shown an interest in Pogba, they are unlikely to be able to match the wages offered at the Etihad Stadium.

It would be a bitter pill to swallow, were the France Under-19 international to cross the Manchester divide.

This is made a very prospect by the fact that Pogba's idol, Patrick Vieira, now works at City and has a prominent role in player recruitment.

With contract talks hitting an impasse, United are frantically trying to find a solution, as they initially recruited the player at great expense.
